Do you love working with timber? Do you have good carpentry skills and enjoy detailed and precise work? Boats have been built in timber throughout the ages and this time-honoured tradition is still well alive today.

Constructing timber boats, you will build wooden hulls, decks and structures for various types of vessel. You will gain a sound knowledge of the properties of different timbers and will develop timber woodworking skills. You will work on marine drafting, hull form and performance, hull design calculations and hull model making.

As well as working with timber, you you will learn to work with a variety of hand and power tools and develop a sound knowledge of paints, varnishes and coatings.

The feeling and satisfaction of working with wood is a big attraction to this specialised form of Boat Building. Once bitten, it is a hard bug to escape.
