You might like a job with one of the many small companies who specialize in fumigating boats, based at a port of entry. You will work in conjunction with both customs and quarantine officers, to help ensure the vessel complies with legislated requirements and quarantine controls.

This is a job that protects our country from potentially harmful diseases as well as ensuring boats maintain hygiene standards for their crews.

You will develop a sound knowledge of pesticides and herbicides and untreated timbers. You will follow safety procedures for both human contact and environment protection, assessing the risks of excessive pesticide residue and poor pest control. An interest in chemical compounds will also be advantageous.
